We Are Young

Give me a second I
I need to get my story straight
My friends are in the bathroom
Getting higher than the Empire State
My lover she’s waiting for me
Just across the bar
My seats been taken by some sunglasses
Asking ‘bout a scar
And I know I gave it to you months ago
I know you’re trying to forget
But between the drinks and subtle things
The holes in my apologies
You know I’m trying hard to take it back
So if by the time the bar closes
And you feel like falling down
I’ll carry you home

Tonight
We are young
So let’s set the world on fire
We can burn brighter
Than the sun

Tonight
We are young
So let’s set the world on fire
We can burn brighter
Than the sun

Now I know that I’m not
All that you got
I guess that I
I just thought maybe we could find new ways to fall apart
But our friends are back
So let’s raise a cup
Cause I found someone to carry me home

Tonight
We are young
So let’s the set the world on fire
We can burn brighter
Than the sun

Tonight
We are young
So let’s set the world on fire
We can burn brighter
Than the sun

Carry me home tonight
Just carry me home tonight
Carry me home tonight
Just carry me home tonight

The world is on my side
I have no reason to run
So will someone come and carry me home tonight
The angels never arrived
But I can hear the choir
So will someone come and carry me home

Tonight
We are young
So let’s set the world on fire
We can burn brighter
Than the sun

Tonight
We are young
So let’s set the world on fire
We can burn brighter
Than the sun

So if by the time the bar closes
And you feel like falling down
I’ll carry you home tonight…

The Horses

Once upon a time, many years ago, Rick and an old acquaintance began a like for the song The Horses, by Daryl Braithwaite. (Some Aussie guy that’s been around 30 years or so that I’m sure nobody has heard of - you aren’t missing out!)

Fast forward to early 2010. My big brother Matty was home on holiday from London for our cousins Wedding. One random night during his time here, Matty and his bff Heather, joined Rick, myself and our friends for dinner and drinks at our favourite pub. It ended up being a night they had a live singer in, which resulted in our table staying until the wee hours requesting, and by requesting I mean screaming, insulting and demanding, ‘The Horses’ to be sung. The guy didn’t know it, even after the 45th “request”, which then resulted in us, singing (again, I mean screaming) it to everyone left at the pub (which wasn’t many anyway, but we sure cleared that place out).

That night lead us to many “play the horses!” references in future (and now present) conversations via txt message, email and chat.

Fast forward to early 2011. I was in London, spending some time with Matty and Heather (who had just recently moved to London). We had just finished dinner and a few drinks with a friend, and were on our way to continue the drinking at a local club. To cut a long story short, the three of us cheerfully, or drunkenly… sang The Horses to every Londoner passerby within ear shot (and being that we were on a High Street - there was a lot of people in ear shot).

I can’t be sure, but I’m 90% positive we called Rick to leave him voicemail’s of us singing, and definitely sent him many texts to let him know of our Daryl ways and how he should be so proud.

Fast forward to the weekend just gone. Rick and I were at Corey and Anna’s, who were having a party. Late, late that night, we decided it was the perfect opportunity to record a little something to send over to Matty and Heather.

And lucky for you guys, you get to witness it too.

The angelic voices present in the video belong to myself and Rick, Corey in the corner, and Sean laying behind us.

Enjoy.

And I’m sorry.

The Horses!
